Dick and Helen Appel recently attended the American Sheep Industry meeting in San Antonio, Texas. They renewed old friendships and learned the latest about raising sheep. They arrived home on a Sunday to attend their grandson, Joshua’s 13th birthday party at the home of his parents, Liz and Neil Appel. Two days later, Helen and Dick flew to Indianapolis to visit their daughter, Susan, and her family. Joe and Susan Lynch, Cecelia, Abigail and Lillian live in West Lafayette where Joe is an associate professor at Purdue University. Dick and Helen attended the baptism of their newest grandchild. Christopher Appel also attended as the godfather.
Dusty B.B. Club cancelled last week’s meeting due to inclement weather, and bad road conditions. The meeting has been changed to Feb. 28 in the parish hall of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in LaCrosse from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Dianne Appel will be hostess. Lunch will be in the LaCrosse Café with dessert and coffee served in the parish hall. Roll call is: What is the funniest thing your child/grandchild has said or done?”
Brian and Angela Broeckel, Tom and Doreen Riedner and Karen Broeckel, all of Dusty, attended a celebration of life for Ken Beasley in the Waitsburg High School gymnasium Tuesday afternoon. Beasley, 1944-2018, spent his entire teaching/administrative career in the Waitsburg School District. He is survived by his wife, Pam Nolan-Beasley; two sons, Zachariah and Austin; an adopted daughter, Gracie; three grandchildren; siblings, and innumerable relatives, friends and former students and their parents.
Other attendees included his mother-in-law, Jeanette Nolan; brother- and sister-in law, Greg and Gwen Nolan, and nephew, Jason Nolan, all of Colfax. Tributes shared at the service mentioned that he taught with passion and humor, was strict but fair, and that, as a teacher, he challenged everyone to be their best.
