Gar/Pal jazz ensemble plays at UI jazz festival

Garfield/Palouse Jazz High School jazz ensemble under the direction of Matt Zook competed in the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival Saturday afternoon at the University of Idaho.

The band again played their set at Albertson Hall.

Adjudicator David Jarvis from Washington State University credited the band with the full sound they produced with so few members.

He said he especially enjoyed the band's rendition of Dave Brubeck's "Blue Rondo A La Turk," which was their last selection.

The band also played compositions by Dizzy Gillespie and Duke Ellington.

Drummer Ethan Cook plays at top left. Below Christian Burt plays alto saxophone and Josh Heithe plays bass.

Other members of the band are Taylor Jones and Lizzie Stout, flutes; Taylor Zehm and Olivia Knauff, tenor saxophones; Patrick Orfe, tuba; Lauren Welch and Eddie O'Neill, trumpets.
