Serving Whitman County since 1877

Martin receives honors

Pete Martin was honored Thursday on his retirement after 37 years of service as Whitman County Coroner. Martin officially ended his service as coroner at midnight Feb. 28, the last day of the month. Any early morning calls to report an unattended death would have gone to Annie Pillers, chief deputy coroner who was the lone applicant for appointment to replace Martin.

"The Legend has Retired" was painted on a banner which decorated the commissioners' room for the two-hour fete.

Commissioner Michael Largent read a resolution from the county commissioners, and Commissioner Dean Kinzer read a proclamation from the Washington Association of County Officials.
