Bulldog golfers open at Harrington

Colfax golf team opened the season with a strong showing Tuesday at the Harrington course. The Bulldogs were new to the course and played in strong winds.

Team scores were not posted, but Colfax booked the four lowest individual scores with Bennett Gay carding a par 36. Other finishers for the Bulldogs were Chance Weitze 41, Lorenzo Torlai 42, Augie Allenbach 51 and William Dunning 56.

McKenna Davis led the girls with a 58.

Bill Chandler is the new coach for the Colfax golf team this year. Chandler moved here about five years ago from Pomeroy where he retired after 26 years as postmaster. He is the grandfather of Bennett Gray.

Gray, Allenbach and Weitze return to the links after taking the state title last year. All three advanced to the final field of 20 for the second round of state action at the Horn Rapids course in Richland. Colfax was the only team to get three golfers in the final. Weitze finished fourth overall, Gray 11th and Allenbach 13th.

Chandler succeeds Coach Bruce Perisho who departed Colfax for a job as golf pro and manager of the Oroville Golf Club. Colfax grad Cody Gronning, now a student at the University of Idaho, is assistant coach of the team.

Colfax will host the next match Tuesday.
