Big Cheney meet shrinks chances for B team points

A rare one-two lead by local runners appeared Saturday at Cheney when Gavin Merritt of Tekoa/Rosalia took a win in the second heat of the 1600. Chase Baerlocher of Colfax is tracking Merritt.

Team points for local track entrants in Cheney’s Nike-Van Kuren Invitational Saturday turned out to be rare items as school from the B division competed with big school teams from all corners of the state. The Cheney results listed 35 schools on the boys’ side and 30 on the girls’ side.

Host Cheney dominated both sides of the meet with the boys booking 146 points and the girls totaling 101.
