Serving Whitman County since 1877
The 2018 edition of the Colton-Uniontown Fair will be Friday at Colton High School from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. with farm animal fitting and showing, an FFA plant sale, breakfast and lunch and 4H demonstrations.
A total of 47 student exhibitors are set to participate, including two duck wranglers for a new addition this year.
Members of Colton, Uniontown and Pullman FFA and 4H will compete in beef, swine, sheep, horses and small animals such as dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and rabbits.
Home economics and ag science shop projects will be judged Thursday night and on display Friday.
The fair will begin with the opening ceremony at 8 a.m. followed by fitting and showing from 8:30 a.m. to noon. A grand champion will be named for beef, goats, swine and horses.
After a lunch break, during which volunteers will serve hamburgers, hot dogs, chili, chips and home-baked goods to benefit the local FFA, exhibitors return to the tents at 2 p.m. for the large animal round robin in which the champions from each category compete with all animals, a goat, cow, pig and horse.
The overall winner gets a belt buckle.
“Come out and see all the hard work the kids have done,” said Mandi White, exhibits manager. “It's very family-friendly fun. And it's a little entertaining. Sometimes it's like a mini rodeo inside that show tent.”
The fair during the last week of April prepares youths for next the Spokane Junior Livestock Show the following week.
