Colfax girls finish 9-1 on south side of NE

Colfax softball players sustained two losses Tuesday against Northwest Christian to drop to an 11-4 record with one more NE game set next Thursday when Davenport visits here.

Colfax made the Tuesday trip to NWC after topping the LRS Broncos twice Saturday at McDonald Park. Those wins finished out the NE-South run at 9-1.

Tuesday Northwest Christian hammered Colfax 12-2 in the opener with 11 hits. The Crusader posted an 7-0 lead after the first two frames.

Abbie Miller rapped a homer and Helina Hahn, Chelsea Becker and Shyah Antoine each singled for the four Colfax hits.

In game two, the Crusaders took a 9-5 win with five runs in the fifth after Colfax had battled back for a 4-4 tie.

Colfax rapped seven hits in the second game with Miller and Hahn each getting two singles. Anni Cox, Becker, and Perry Imler each had a single.

Saturday at McDonald Park against the Broncos, Colfax took the first game 15-12 with a four-run comeback charge in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ritzville had posted a 12-11 edge before the Colfax charge.

LRS had 13 hits in the first game, and Colfax had 10. Greta Geier had a key homer in the rally and also tagged a double. Miller pitched the win and had three singles.

Colfax took the second win 11-6 with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth.

Chelsea Becker rapped two doubles and a single in the second game. Miller and Hahn each had a triple and a single.

Freshman Kennedy Schmidt fanned nine Broncos and allowed seven hits in taking the win.

Colfax and Pomeroy split a doubleheader Wednesday, April 18, in the late McDonald season opener. The Bulldogs took the first game 10-9 over the heavy-hitting Pomeroy club, and the Pirates took the second game 14-9 with a 10-run explosion in the fifth inning.

Miller struck out nine, but gave up 11 hits on the way to a win in the first game. She walked just four Pirates.

Pomeroy loaded up the bases in the last inning, but the charge ended with a pop out fly to second base.

Hahn tripled and singled to top the Colfax hitters, and Becker doubled and singled. Miller had two singles.

In the second game, Colfax had a 6-1 lead going into the fifth inning before Pomeroy scored 10 runs. Pomeroy tagged Colfax pitchers Kennedy Schmidt and Miller for 11 hits.

The Bulldogs also totaled 11 hits, with catcher Becker rapping a triple, double and single. Miller tripled and singled, and Shyah Antoine rapped three singles.

Pomeroy freshman Emma Severs rapped a homer over the fence and finished with five RBIs in the second game. Pomeroy had 21 hits.
