Malden OES
Another busy year has flown by at Malden Chapter under the leadership of Worthy Matron, Jean Flanigen and Worthy Patron, Dale Flanigen. Sisters Lynda Jamison and Kathy Seville completed their year as Deputy Instructors and represented Malden at Grand Chapter.
In May, Sister Kathy Seville was appointed East Side Chairman of the Deputy Instructors and Sisters Lorna Burns and Karen Loesch received their 50-year pins. June was the Trail Rider's Dinner for about 80 people. They had a very successful auction with Sandra Cavello auctioning off donated items and pies.
Grand Chapter was at the end of June and a number of our members attended and some sang in the choir.
For the summer picnic at Williams Lake at Klinks Resort Bonnie and Jim Lyle brought their boat.
Worthy Matron Jean was in and out of the hospital during the summer and fall, and Associate Matron Lynda Jamison and Associate Patron Tom Simpson, presided over our Official Visit in September in the Fraternal Hall in Oakesdale.
The Worthy Grand Matron honored a member from each chapter who helped mentor new members and Louise Belsby was chosen for this honor at Malden Chapter.
In November, Deputy Instructor Kim Davis brought the chapter up to date on ritualistic work and answered questions from the officers. At the January meeting Greg and Lorna Burns sang "You're a Grand Old Dame" to Gwelda Henning and presented her with a plaque thanking her for her many years service as secretary of the chapter. The Malden Lodge Brothers presented Gwelda with the widow's pin.
Since Gwelda is moving from Malden to Liberty Lake, the chapter met at The Harvester Restaurant Jan. 15 and had a farewell luncheon.
Sister Sandra Cavello worked hard at, making corn bags to sell and because of her hard work the chapter was able to purchase a new microwave. Sisters Lorna Burns and Sandra Cavello worked hard to make knee pillows for the patients at the Colfax Care Center and a group presented the pillows.
Members are also collecting pill bottles for Doctors Without Borders, making caps for cancer patients and collecting glasses for Lion's Club.
Malden Chapter has worked hard and donated to a number of charities. We gave donations to Alzheimer's research, Diabetes Research, the Scottish Rite Language Center, General Grand Chapter Hurricane Relief Fund, Estarl and the Alexandra Schencking Nursing Scholarship fund. We also chose a local charity to help support and gave a $1,000 donation to Friends of CASA which is a group that helps Foster Children in our county and area. We also supported the Rainbow girls.
Malden chapter has grown. Martha chapter in Cheney chose to merge with Malden in June, Worthy Grand Matron Peggy Mills and members of her Grand Family performed a merger. In February, Joann Morgan, who was Worthy Matron of Martha Chapter, was appointed Grand Representative of North Dakota.
