Watershed program now in third year

The Palouse River Watershed Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP), now in its third year, has assisted more than 40 landowners in achieving conservation goals on their land. The RCPP program covers the entire Palouse River drainage in Whitman, Latah, Spokane, Lincoln and Adams counties.

Authorized under the 2014 Farm Bill and directed by the NRCS, RCPP acts as a one-stop shop for landowners to receive assistance that is tailored to their specific conservation goals with funding allocated from multiple sources.

Landowners interested in doing conservation work on their land can contact their local conservation district for assistance. Currently, the RCPP program offers the highest payment for direct seed, at $43 per acre, compared to other programs available.

Additional proposed projects can range from livestock practices to cover crops to precision nutrient management, among others, with the main goals being direct seed and buffers on streams.

The last day to sign up for the RCPP program is May 31.
