He was born on November 30, 1943 at Spokane, Wash., to Lawrence and Nettie (Mihlke) Johnson who farmed in the Farmington area. He attended grade school in Farmington and high school in Oakesdale, graduating in 1962.

Ron married Marcia MacQuarrie on August 23, 1964 at Oakesdale and the couple made their home in Farmington where they raised two sons, Mark and Jared. They were later divorced. Ron then met Barbara Richardson at Farmington and the couple has lived in Farmington since 1976. Barbara survives at the family home.

Ron has been a farmer all of his life. He raised certified seed potatoes with Lyle Bruce near Farmington for several years in the 1970's. He had also worked as a welder for J. E. Love Company in Garfield from 1967 – 1971. He retired in 2016, but still continued to raise a few cattle at the family farm.

He was a former fireman and fire commissioner for Farmington – Oakesdale District # 10; a member of Oakesdale Lodge No. 55, F. & A. M .; and was a former Boy Scout Leader in Farmington. Ron was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed car rides with his dog, TEX, looking for wildlife, snowmobiling, cutting firewood, and raising his cattle. He loved old westerns on TV, and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Ron also enjoyed his annual fall sausage making with Bernt and Rodger Lehn.

Survivors include Barbara Richardson at the Farmington home; his children, Mark (Craig) Johnson of Santa Barbara, Calif., Jared (Fabrice) Johnson of Houston, Texas, Erik (Beverly) Richardson of Austin, Texas, and Dawn Richardson of Boise, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Brigitte, Conner, and Garrett.
