Woman arrested for murder on Colfax Airport Road

Ashley D. Myers, 30, listed as homeless, was arrested Friday night on a probable charge of second-degree murder after deputies responded to a report at 6:34 p.m. from three witness in the same vehicle who reported seeing a woman pointing a gun at a SUV parked along Airport Road near Highway 26.

According to the arrest report filed in court Monday by Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Jordan, the witnesses called 911.

Colfax Officer Perry Tate was the first on the scene and apprehended the woman, later identified as Myers, who was carrying a baseball bat about 20 yards from the parked SUV.

Tate arrested the woman and placed her in the city patrol car. He also observed a man slumped in the driver's seat of the vehicle. He observed the man had sustained a gunshot wound to the top of his head.

A Colfax ambulance crew arrived on the scene and determined the man was deceased.

Sheriff Brett Myers later identified the victim as Kenneth L. Allen, 55, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Two Washington State Patrol troopers and a second deputy also went to the scene.

Sgt. Jordan said the victim was in a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe. In addition to the hole in his head, he had sustained injuries to his face which indicated he could have been wounded there.

A FN .40 pistol was found in the dirt at the scene. The semi-automatic pistol was fitted with a laser sight, according to the report.

A glass pipe with what appeared to be methamphetamine residue was found next to the pistol in the dirt field.

Jordan's report said after the suspect was advised of her rights, she responded by saying that the rights didn't apply to her. She told the deputy she was Satan.

When she was questioned later in the department's interview room, the suspect told deputies she shot Allen once in the face, and he slumped in the seat. She said the victim began to make gurgling sounds, and she shot him again in the head.

The report said a search of the Tahoe led to the discovery of bullet holes and bullet fragments throughout its interior.

The Whitman County coroner is assisting with the investigation.

The suspect made a first appearance in court Monday at 3 p.m.

Bail for pre-trial release was set at $1,000,000 surety Monday. Cash bail would be $100,000.

Deputy Prosecutor Merritt Decker told the court Myers has no criminal record, but she has violated three prior no-contact orders and two arrest warrants were previously issued against her.

Judge Gary Libey Monday said she would have to come up with a verified place where she would reside in the event she posts bail. The state has until today, Thursday, to file formal charges.

County Defense Attorney Steven Martonick represented Myers at the first appearance. Judge Libey appointed Martonick to represent the suspect after determining Myers was unable to hire an attorney.

Next court date has been set for Friday.
