Eagles break 2-year losing streak with Touchet shutout

The St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse Eagles got their first football win in more than two years Sept. 26 with a 46-0 win at Touchet.

They preserved a shutout with a goal-line stand in the third quarter.

“The kids were pretty jacked,” said first-year coach Rich Hallenius. “The seniors were really thankful for the younger players helping them get a victory.”

The team’s two seniors, Conr Hergert and Grant Harrison, both scored touchdowns in the game, Hergert with two.

On defense, the two worked to contain Touchet (0-5) with standout help from the Eagles’ inside linebackers, junior Jonathan Logen and his brother, freshman Matthew Logen.

On offense, running back Chase Anderson, a junior, rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns while quarterback Trey Fleming ran for 118 yards.

S.J.E.L. led 30-0 at halftime.

The Eagles are now 1-4 on the season at the halfway point. They will play each team in the Southeast 1B league a second time, starting Friday in St. John against Pomeroy (2-3) for Homecoming.
