Nighthawks, Pirates set for net collision

Oakesdale volleyball players, who had a bye in the SE league round Tuesday, will head south to face the Pirates tonight in what figures to be a battle.

Oakesdale will travel to Pirateville with an undefeated league record at 10-0, and they have an 11-0 overall mark.

Pomeroy now stands at 9-1 with their lone league loss sustained in a battle and Oakesdale in the first round.

Pomeroy remained in the hunt Tuesday with a four-game win over Colton on the Pirates’ court. Line score for Pirates’ win was 25-16, 21-25, 25-15 and 25-20.

Pirate ace Deana Caruso hit 14 kills on the home court, and Sydney Smith had 16 assists.

Colton, now 4-5 in the league run behind SJEL, was led by Emily Schultheis with 14 kills and three blocks. She served 9 for 11 off the line.

Jordyn Moehrle had three digs for the Wildcats in the four-game match.

Colton will play at Touchet tonight.

Touchet Tuesday bowed to Prescott in a five-game battle on theTigers’ court. That was the second league win for Prescott, and dropped the Touchet league mark to 3-7

St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse swept Garfield/Palouse Tuesday in Palouse, 25-10, 25-12, 25-19 to advance their record at 6-5 in league for third place.

For the Eagles, Ashlynn Archer had nine aces and 11 kills, Allyn Harder 19 digs, Roxy Dickerson 16 assists and Riley Lamb five blocks.

The Eagles will honor seniors tonight, Thursday, in St. John when they host Prescott.

For Gar/Pal (1-10 in league, 2-12 overall), Lexi Brantner led with 10 digs. Denni Fealy had six assists; Kenzi Pedersen got six kills and three aces, and Maci Brantner had five blocks.

In the Thursday round, Oakesdale defeated Gar-Pal in three straight, 25-13, 25-12, 25-15 to keep their league string rolling.

Pomeroy remained on a collision course with a three-game win over SJEL 25-17, 25-11 and 25-5.

Colton tracked right behind the Eagles in fourth place with a three-game over Prescott, 25-8, 25-15, 25-6.

The league race now shapes up with Oakesdale, Pomeroy, SJEL and Colton in the four slots for the SE playoff rounds which will start Oct. 30 on the home courts of the top two finishers. The SE has been allowed two slots in the state finals.
