Garfield Church Bazaar scheduled for Nov. 3

The annual Christmas Bazaar of the Garfield Christian Fellowship’s Ladies’ Aid Society will be Nov. 3 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church.

For years the bazaar was a Garfield election day tradition and was formerly located in the old school gym, since torn down.

“Everyone came in at lunch and voted,” member Mary Ann Delzer remembers.

Bazaar proceeds supported a variety of community needs, including the hospital auxiliary, mission projects, funeral dinners and Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets.

The bazaar moved to the “new church” on Third Street after its completion in 1966 and has remained there ever since. This year’s event will offer a variety of handcrafted goods including baby quilts, potholders, pillowcases and tea towels.

A chicken and noodle lunch will be served beginning at 11 a.m.

Baked goods including cinnamon rolls and maple bars will also be available.

Plans are also underway to begin offering baked goods for sale one day a week at the new Garfield Plaza.

Proceeds from the bazaar are part of the church’s ongoing financial support to a minister named Pastor John who travels on bicycles and motorcycles to serve 23 rural communities in NE Pakistan. What began as a Facebook encounter six years ago between GCF local pastor Dean Walker and Pastor John has blossomed into an ongoing relationship that includes funding support for a community school as well as church leadership.

Bazaar proceeds are earmarked to support a sewing program that enables local women to become financially self-sufficient through small home businesses.

Funds also support evangelization to the surrounding area. In a recent correspondence, Pastor John expressed his gratitude: “to each and every member of Garfield Christian Fellowship and especially to the women’s ministry of the U.S.A. for their sacrificial love support to lift the poor and deserving Christian women of Pakistan.”
