Serving Whitman County since 1877
Rosalia’s Fall Festival will begin Saturday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m. at the Budding Rose Art Gallery’s “Hollywood in the Palouse” exhibit, showcasing several famous stage and movie star paintings created by Spokane Fox Theater’s past billboard artist Earl Atkinson.
Also on display at the gallery is a personally autographed photo collection of movie stars, such as Marilyn Monroe, that belongs to gallery owner, Diane Nebel, who was born in Hollywood. The collection was given to Diane as a child in the 1950s by her Aunt Frances B. Hayes, who worked for 20th Century Fox Studio’s commissary as a waitress.
Hollywood movie star photos will be on the walls of Whole in the Wall Pizza and at the Rose Garage. During the festival, kids of all ages can enjoy “Halloween Fun” activities such as games, pumpkin carving, crafts, goodies and prizes at Rosalia’s local businesses and library throughout the town until 2 p.m.
Starting at 3, 5 and 7 p.m. are spooky and fun movies at the Rosalia Performing Arts Center. Caution: ghosts and goblins might be popping up at times.
At 8 p.m., adults can enjoy karaoke and a costume party at the Brass Rail Tavern.
Several movies were made in Whitman County, three of which were filmed in Rosalia: “Toys,” starring Robin Williams; “The Basket,” starring Peter Coyote and “Detour,” starring Jeff Fahey.
