Colfax V-netters start playoffs vs. Gorillas

Colfax volleyball players will head for Davenport today and play the Gorilla girls in the first round of the NE District playoffs. The Bulldogs enter the playoff grid as the number-one team from the NE-South league.

The top four teams from each side of the league go into the two-week district show today to compete for three slots in the state finals which will crank up Nov. 7 at Yakima's SunDome.

A win today over the Gorillas would advance Colfax to the semi-round of the district show which will be next Thursday, Nov. 1, at St.George's.

The semi winners will play for the top state ticket that night, and the semi losers will play for the third and last ticket to the state.

Colfax last Thursday finished the league run with a sweep of Tekoa/Rosalia at Tekoa. Line score for the Colfax win was 25-13, 25-18 and 25-18.

The win wrapped the NE-South campaign at 9-1 for the Bulldogs who booked a split with Asotin during the league run.

Kylie Kackman led the Bulldogs at Tekoa with 11 aces. Kackman went to the line with the score close in the first game and ran a string of serves to point 24.

After wresting the serve from Kackman, the T-wolves put the ball into the net on the next serve for the last Colfax point and a 25-13 win in the first game.

Colfax took an early lead in the second game, but Madison Hall went to the line for the hosts and ran a string of serves to stake an 9-8 lead for the Wolves. Colfax battled back for the 25-18 edge in the second game.

Kierstyn York hit five kills for Colfax, and York, Sophie Klaveano, Kennedy Schmidt and Asher Cai were each credited with a block. Annie Cox had 12 digs.
