It will be Oakesdale vs. Pomeroy, one more time, Friday at Oakesdale in the SE qualifier for next week’s state action at the Yakima Sundome.
Both the Nighthawks and the Pirates prevailed Tuesday in the first round of the SE playoff which matched up the first four finishers in the league.
Oakesdale, which topped Pomeroy twice in the league campaign, defeated fourth-place Colton in three straight Tuesday at Oakesdale, and Pomeroy beat third-place St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse in four games Tuesday at Pomeroy.
The SE league this year has been assigned one state ticket and one chance at a ticket to the state show. The winner of the Oakesdale/Pomeroy title game will get the ticket, and the loser will face a consolation survivor for the other chance ticket.
Oakesdale Tuesday ran their SE record to 13-0 with the sweep over Colton, 25-15, 25-13, 25-16.
Brooklyn Henley rapped 24 kills at the Wildcats and had two blocks. Logan Reed hit 18 kills with three aces and two blocks. Justice Brown had 20 assists and LouEllen Reed had 19 assists and 15 digs.
For Colton, Jordyn Moehrle had seven kills and 12 digs, and Emily Schultheis had five kills, seven digs and four blocks. Rylee Vining had eight assists.
Eagles meet Colton Friday in elimination match
The St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse girls volleyball team opened the district tournament Tuesday night with a four-set loss to No. 2 seed Pomeroy.
SJEL, the no. 3 seed, lost to the Pirates twice in the regular season in three sets.
Playing at Oakesdale Tuesday, the scores were 25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 25-14.
Ashlyn Archer led SJEL with 15 kills, six blocks and six aces while Allyn Harder had 28 digs and Roxy Dickerson six assists.
The senior-dominated Eagles will play Colton Friday at 6 p.m. in Oakesdale for an elimination match against the district’s no. 4 seed.
The two teams split in the regular season. The winner Friday will stay alive to play the loser of the championship match between Oakesdale and Pomeroy.
