Clarence Alva Howard

Clarence was born in Stillwell, IL, to Charles and Laura Howard on May 17, 1915. His family moved to Quincy, IL, where his brother Arthur was born, and then to Aberdeen, SD, where his sister Dorothy was born. They settled in northern Idaho in 1929. Clarence loved music and learned to play the ukulele, mandolin, guitar and violin by the age of 12. Clarence accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior when he was 9, and his faith in God was a constant throughout his life. He graduated from Athol High School.

He eloped with Mary Mae Parr in 1936. They had two daughters, Fern and Lynette while in Idaho, and son Steve was born after their move to Pullman in 1947. The family moved to Albion in 1967.

Clarence worked as a logger, carpenter and millwright. He spent most of his career working for WSU. He loved his family, music, hunting, fishing, beekeeping and training horses and dogs. The love of his life, Mary Mae, passed in 2005, and Clarence has lived the final years of his life at Regency Assisted Living in Pullman.

He is survived by his daughters Fern (Craig) Feenan and Lynette (Bill) Caruthers, son Steve (Lori) Howard and granddaughters Lorri (Chris) Johnston, Emily Howard and Kate Howard. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, November 17th, at 11:00 am at the United Methodist Church in St. John, WA.
