Colfax plans two days of Mustache Madness

Colfax Unified Executive Director Valorie Gregory put out the word last week that the Chamber will mark two days of “Mustache Madness” during Apple Cup week. The event will recognize WSU quarterback Gardner Minshew and crew leading up to the regular season’s final game, the Nov. 23 Apple Cup in Pullman.

Now ranked number eight in the AP poll after their win Saturday at Colorado, the Cougars will host the Washington Huskies, now ranked number 17, in this year’s edition of the Apple Cup.

For Mustache Madness days, Colfax downtown businesses will be wearing mustaches and headbands.

The windows of the businesses will feature Big Mustache signs for the businesses who will be giving out free mustaches on Nov. 21, and game day, Nov. 23.

Gregory said the mustaches will be donated by the chamber and will come in a variety of styles.

She added Colfax Police have volunteered to mount mustaches on the city’s patrol cars.

Minshew, who came to WSU from East Carolina for a grad year football season, has thrown for 3,963 yards in 10 games to lead the Cougars, now 9-1, to the top of the Pac 12 race. They host Arizona this week and then will host the Huskies six days later in the Apple Cup.

Minshew’s mustache has become his trademark and led to WSU students and fans donning mustaches on the sideline. For last week’s post-game interview at Colorado, WSU Coach Mike Leach was bedecked with a Minshew mustache by Minshew himself.
