NE state entrants hit sudden halt

Final chapter for NE football for 2018 went into the books last weekend when Northwest Christian and Chewelah were eliminated in the quarter-final round of the state 2B playoffs.

Kalama dropped Northwest Christian 31-6, and Napavine edged Chewelah 20-14.

Napavine had a part at the very start of the season last August when they defeated Liberty 47-7 when the Liberty and Colfax teams made the long road trip to Cathlamet for a twin bill of non-leaguers to open the season.

Colfax was blanked 0-14 in Wahkiakum in the cross-state adventure.

State semi-final action in the 2B playoff this week will match Napavine against top-rated Adna, and Kalama against Toledo.

Toledo eliminated Tri-Cities Prep 34-23, and Adna stopped Onalaska 34-12 to make it to the state’s final four 2B round.

Chewelah defeated Columbia of Burbank 34-14, and Northwest Christian defeated Pe Ell-Willapa Valley 35-26 in the first round of the playoffs two weeks ago.

Reardan, the last team on the grid from the south side of the NE, was hammered 35-3 by Toledo to be eliminated after the first round.
