The funeral service for Guy C. Parkman, 84, retired Pullman teacher and coach who had resided in Albion since 1962, was Friday at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Mr. Parkman died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at his home in Albion.
Mr. Parkman began teaching science and biology at Pullman High School in 1961. He was a coach for Pullman football from 1963 until 1989 and coach for junior varsity and varsity baseball teams for 19 years. He retired from teaching in 1991 and, for the last 17 years, he and his wife, Betty, wintered in Lake Livingston, Texas.
Born May 22, 1934, in New Edinburg, Ark., to William and Nora Barker Parkman, he graduated from Pateros High School in 1952 and later served in the Army. After receiving his discharge in 1955, he attended Columbia Basin Junior College in Pasco where he met Betty Anderson. They were married Sept. 7, 1957, in Benton City and moved to Pullman, where he completed studies for his bachelors and masters degrees.
Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Robert Parkman, Olympia; Linda Parkman, Oklahoma City; David Parkman, Richland; Daniel Parkman, Spokane Valley, and Susan Oltmer, Cheney, and 10 grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial gifts go to a program which supports youth athletics.
