Colton and Garfield/Palouse both opened the season with a stretch of wins as games got underway last weekend across Whitman County. Colton took down two 2B schools, St. George’s and Colfax, while Gar/Pal won at Potlatch and at home against Lakeside and Tekoa/Rosalia.
Colton will play again Saturday at Touchet. The Vikings meet Prescott at home in Palouse Friday. Game time is 6 p.m.
Colton 64, St. George’s 53
Colton began the 2018-19 season at home Nov. 30 against St. George’s of Spokane and scored 16 points in each quarter.
The Wildcats, coming off of their ninth state title in 10 years, led 50-45 early in the fourth quarter when Dakota Patchen hit a 3-pointer to open up the Wildcats’ lead.
Senior post Emily Schultheis led Colton with 22 points and nine rebounds in the game while Patchen had 11 points and four assists. Rylee Vining and Jordyn Moehrle scored eight points apiece.
Lidia Bergquist led St. George’s with 20 points while Abby Jones scored 19.
Garfield/Palouse 25, Lakeside 23
A key three-pointer from Paige Collier with two minutes left put the Vikings up by four as they held off Lakeside at Garfield Dec. 1.
Collier scored nine points in the game and Kenzi Pedersen had six points, six steals and 12 rebounds. Gar/Pal forced 23 turnovers, while committing 12.
Garfield/Palouse 52, Potlatch 26
The Viking girls went to Potlatch Nov. 30 to open their season and got 22 turnovers on the way to a non-league win. Freshman Kenzi Pedersen led Gar/Pal with 24 points and nine rebounds while Maci Brantner, another freshman, got 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Garfield/Palouse 44, Tekoa/Rosalia 27
Playing in Garfield against the non-league Timberwolves, Brantner led Gar/Pal with 12 points and Madi Cloninger scored nine points. Tori McClain led Tekoa/Rosalia with seven points.
