Art Among the Trees, Libey Gallery dedication set

Whitman County Library has announced that the third annual "Art Among the Trees" will be in Colfax on Dec. 19.

"Art Among the Trees" is an event featuring trees festively decorated by community members as well as artwork by artists and photographers from around the region. This year 25 trees have been featured.

The artists include Carrie Vielle, Nancy Rothwell, Bob Krikac and photographer Tom Mohr, all from Colfax; Rob Smith from St. John; Nona Hengen from Spangle, and Jacqueline Daisley and photographer Ken Carper from Pullman.

The art and photos will be offered for sale.

Between 5 and 8 p.m. the community celebration at The Center will feature music by John Elwood and Sally Burkhart from Elberton with refreshments and beer and wine.

The special awards ceremony will begin at 7 p.m. when participants and winners will be announced; the winner of the STEM toy raffle, donated by Pioneer Title Company, will be drawn.

The Libey Gallery official dedication

Whitman County Library announced the official dedication of The Libey Gallery will be during the awards ceremony at the "Art Among the Trees" celebration on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

Judge Gary Libey and his wife, Trudy, gave a generous donation of $104,000 to The Library Foundation earlier this year.

The Libey Gallery is the two front rooms in The Bettie Steiger Community Enrichment Center that have been used for displaying the Christmas Trees and artwork in between the "Festival of Trees" and "Art Among the Trees."

The Libey's donation helped complete the new roof and technology lab in The Center, provided special children's programs county-wide and set aside a rainy day fund for The Center.

A large plaque will be unveiled at the ceremony to recognize the contributions of the Libeys, Don and Bettie Steiger, grant sources and hundreds of community volunteers and donors.
