Third stop for the day: Speed chase through Colfax, ends with arrest

A formal charge of attempting to elude an officer was filed Jan 2 in superior court against Rachel Marie Doty, 19, Clarkston. She was arrested Sunday after she stopped the car she was driving near the Bill Willson Road intersection. She was booked into the jail here Sunday on a probable charge of felony eluding. The arrest report by Trooper Robert Taylor said the pursuit lasted approximately 10 miles and went through Colfax. Speeds during the pursuit went as high at 98 miles per hour, according to the report.

Trooper Taylor in his arrest report noted Doty had been arrested a total of three times Sunday.

Judge Doug Robinson allowed Doty to be released on her own recognizance, but banned her from driving as a condition of pre-trial release.

Trooper Taylor in his report said during the northbound pursuit, several northbound motorists pulled over to the shoulder of the highway while the driver passed. The car went over the centerline by as much as four feet while making the passes, but did not make full entry into the oncoming lane.

Taylor said he recognized the car as one he had stopped at 11:27 a.m. Sunday as it was driving southbound at mile 45. He said during the first arrest the driver called him names and ripped up her copy of the speeding ticket and threw it at him.

The report said 20 minutes after Trooper Taylor made the first stop, Trooper Kendall arrested the same driver and cited her for negligent driving.

Colfax officer Denis Yunin was concluding a stop south of Colfax and joined the northbound pursuit as it went through Colfax. A sheriff's deputy also assisted in the pursuit.

Trooper Taylor's report said he drew his weapon as he approached the stopped car and pulled the suspect out of the car and placed her in the back of his patrol car.

The report said she responded with "I don't recall" to questions after she was arrested.
