The showdown of the season so far comes to Palouse Friday night for Garfield/Palouse vs. Oakesdale, both unbeaten in Southeast 1B league boys basketball.
The two expected, senior-heavy contenders for the 2018-19 season crown have both beat Colton – which is now tied for third with Prescott – clearing the way for a game to decide who is at the top of the league just past the midway point of the season.
Oakesdale stands at 8-4 overall, 5-0 in league and Garfield/Palouse is 7-5, 5-0. They will play a second time for the regular season Feb. 2 at Oakesdale.
Game time in Palouse Friday is 7:30 p.m.
Orofino 54, Colton 52
A last-second three-pointer from Orofino’s Cody Isabelle stole a victory from the Wildcats at Orofino Tuesday night. Reece Chadwick and Parker Druffel both scored 19 points for Colton in the loss, which dropped their record to 7-6 overall (3-2 league).
Garfield/Palouse 48, Troy 17
Blake Jones scored 15 points to lead the Vikings in a non-league win at Palouse Jan. 5. Tanner Anderson added 10 points and Caden Sanderson nine. Gar/Pal forced 16 turnovers and held Troy to 23 total shots from the field in the game.
Oakesdale 60, Colton 52
Oakesdale went to Colton Jan. 5 and Kit Hockett and Ryan Henning combined for 22 points as the Nighthawks beat Colton to resume league play after Christmas break. Tyler Bober had nine points while Jacob Himes got eight.
Parker Druffel led the Wildcats with 20 points while Luke Vining scored 10.
Colton 76, St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse 52
At Endicott Jan. 4, Reece Chadwick delivered a season-high 30 points for Colton as Parker Druffel added 18 and Jon Bean 12 in a win over the Eagles. Kameron Greenhalgh scored 16 points to lead SJEL and Owen Swannack had 15 points.
Garfield/Palouse 64, Touchet 24
The Vikings picked up another league win with a home blowout over Touchet Jan. 4. Gar/Pal’s defense held the Indians to single-digit scoring in all four quarters. Ely Hawkins led the Vikings with 14 points in the game while Blake Jones had 10 and Tanner Anderson and Jacob Anderson each got eight.
Oakesdale 51, Genesee 46
Playing at home Jan. 4 Oakesdale caused 21 turnovers in a non-league matchup. Kieron Anderson scored 16 points, while Tyler Bober had 14 and Jacob Himes 10.
Reardan 74, St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse 31
The Eagles met 2B Reardan in St. John and went down to put their record at 1-10 overall, 0-5 in league. SJEL was set to play again at Rosalia Tuesday night followed by a trip to Touchet Friday and a home game in LaCrosse Saturday against Pomeroy.
“Especially need to pick up one or two of these league games this weekend,” said Mike Stubbs, Eagles assistant coach.
