SJEL girls tied for 4th

The St. John/Endicott/ LaCrosse girls basketball team is tied for fourth-place in the Southeast 1B league, vying for one of four spots in this year’s district tournament in February — down from a six- team format in previous years.

With an 8-6 overall record, 3-4 in league, The Eagles’ starting five is made up of post Riley Lamb, forward Glory Dickerson, guard Allyn Harder – all seniors — and post Drew Curtis-Brewer, a junior and the team’s leading scorer, along with sophomore point guard Roxy Dickerson. Second leading scorer Brooklyn Bailey, a freshman guard, comes off the bench.

Last weekend, on Friday, Jan. 11, the Eagles won at Touchet 51-44 as Curtis-Brewer scored 19 points and Bailey 12. On Saturday, it was a home game at LaCrosse against Pomeroy (13-1, 6-1), losing 57-31. Brewer-Curtis scored 12 points while Bailey got eight in the loss.

“Pomeroy – they shut us down,” said Jessica Mills, fourth-year Eagles coach.

This week SJEL has a bye Friday before a road matchup against Garfield/Palouse (8-6, 3-4) Friday, the team they are tied with for fourth in league. St. John/Endicott/LaCrosse won the first meeting Dec. 15 between the two teams.

“In my past four years, this is my best season yet,” said Mills, a 1993 St. John/Endicott graduate. “In attitude, effort, team cohesion.”

Last year the Eagles finished sixth in league.
