Serving Whitman County since 1877
Beginning in December, Colfax Junior/Senior High School Principal Carrie Lipe sent out a Google online survey to an estimated 900 junior/senior high students, staff and parents. It included four Colfax Bulldog designs, all used at one point over the years at the (now) junior-senior high school.
She received more than 600 responses, the winning option a full-body bulldog which can be used as the full-body or just the head – with a version looking one way and a version looking the other.
"It was overwhelming," said Lipe of the results. "The public chose a traditional bulldog."
The official logo will be seen mostly on athletic posters and athletic gear.
"When it comes to here's our official Bulldog on the gym floor, we wanted to get that down," said Jerry Pugh, district superintendent.
The results showed 45 percent chose the older vintage full bulldog, 26 percent chose just the head of that design, followed by 22 percent who chose the pointed Bulldog used in the past decade and four percent chose another head design.
Comments sent back with the votes included: "I like no. 1 and 2. No. 3 is too hard to tell what it is and no. 4 looks like a bratty bulldog."
"Least cartoon characterish looking!"
"We need to look different from other schools, and no. 3 is the only one that does this. We are not Gonzaga or Kettle Falls or Chewelah; We are the Colfax Bulldogs and we should have our own logo."
"I actually really like having the variety."
"The faces of option 1 and option 2 are similar and both classic and yet modern designs."
"I like that one because it looks like a cartoon"
"We need something with a meaner look that puts fear into the opponent's eyes"
"DO NOT like no. 3"
"Keep tradition"
"The Bulldog needs to be yellow because that is the original bulldog and colors"
"There wasn't a place to put 'other.'"
Lipe indicated there are no set plans to paint the new, official logo anywhere in the school.

Every single option is unoriginal clipart. The older logos that the school used look to be hand drawn and one of a kind. Why not just be brave enough to create your very own logo instead of copying the work of others from Google? Surely a student in the school has artistic ability. Certainly there are plenty of great designers in Washington. It's 2021. Stop using other people's work without permission and calling it YOUR logo.
