Colfax wrestlers win at Pomeroy; target state mat tickets

It will be a case of one more time Saturday at Liberty when the Colfax wrestlers hit the mats for the regional tournament in a quest for tickets to the mat classic in Tacoma the following week. All but one member to the team bagged a top-four finish at Pomeroy to advance to the regional round this week at Liberty.

The top four finishers from the Pomeroy meet will go up against the top four from the north side version of the sub-region.

The state B grid assigns four places in the starting grid to wresters from WIAA districts 7 and 9 on the east side of the state.

Saturday at Pomeroy, Colfax wrestlers took the team honors by booking 204 points in the seven-team meet. Reardan, a league power in past seasons, placed second with 183 points.

Colfax had two winners in Augie Allenbach at 220 and Kolby Sisk at 113.

They kept stacking team points with second-place finishers Garrett Phillips at 120, Kolby Slate at 138, Gabe Ahmann at 152, Braeden Rogers at 170, and Josh Brown at 182.

Third-place finishers were Nolan Burrill at 120, Caden Noha at 160, and Dakota Hall at 170. Fourth-place qualifiers were Jakob Sisk at 106, Regan Noha at 182 and Chayne Aeschliman at 195.

Saturday in the sub-regional meet at Pomeroy with all but one of the team members placeing in the top four. The qualifiers will travel to Liberty Saturday and aim for another top four finish to quality for the state Mat Classic.

Augie Allenbach took the title in the 220 class with a pin in another match against Josiah Cwik of Liberty.

Kolby Sisk took the 113 class with a first- round pin over Brandon Davis of LRS.
