Serving Whitman County since 1877
In order for the Colfax and Community Fund to continue, a new president is needed. Many local non-profits including the Council on Aging, Boy Scouts, Palouse River Counseling, Families Together, Boost Collaborative and the Colfax Youth League count on C&CF for funding.
The office of president opened when the Rev. Phil Misner from Peace Lutheran Church transferred to Post Falls.
C&CF began in the ‘60s as the Colfax Treasure Box. The organization isn’t as big as it has been in the past, but aside from a small percentage taken out for administration, all money raised goes to nonprofit groups.
For groups to be recipients of C&CF funding, they have to have a representative on the board. Jeanette Solimine, a volunteer representative from Families Together, is treasurer of the C&CF board. Solimine sent out an email expressing the need for a president for the board, or to begin talks of ending the group and its funding.
“We can’t go on without a president,” said Solimine.
The group might prefer someone who is not a part of a non-profit, but what they need is for someone to organize and run the meetings. The meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at noon at the Bank of Eastern Washington, the former Umpqua Bank building.
The board invites anyone who is interested to join, as the group is always looking for more volunteers, even if those individuals aren’t interested in the president’s position.
C&CF has several fundraisers throughout the year. The main fundraiser is a mailing list asking for donations, which brings in $500 to $1,000 a year.
Coming up in March will be a basket raffle and drawing with a basket full of donated items as the prize.
This years basket’s theme will be “Spring.”
In the fall, a Kiss the Pig contest is conducted at the Palouse Empire Fair.
C&CF plans to continue the fundraiser this fall as well.
