Snow storms change state wrestling finals

Snow storms across the state last week wound up knocking out the normal regional round of the state finals for the wrestling campaign. Facing reports of bad roads and school closures, WIAA last week called off the regional eliminations and developed a plan to tack the round onto the state finals at the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome Friday and Saturday.

For local wrestlers in the B division, the change meant a scratch in the all-day regional which was set at Liberty last Saturday. Four wrestlers from the previous weeks sub-regional round at Pomeroy and four qualifiers from the north half were slated to compete at Liberty to trim the entry down to four for the state show.

With the WIAA change last week, all the qualifiers for the Spangle showdown will travel to the Tacoma Dome.

For the B schools that were headed for Liberty, the means all eight qualifiers will get a start at the big B event Friday morning.

The state will work through the regionals and then continue with the state finals which will wrap up Saturday.

The Colfax entry of 13 wrestler will be topped by two winners from the Pomeroy meet, Augie Allenbach at 220 and Kolby Sisk at 113.

Second-place finishers include Garrett Phillips at 120, Kolby Slate at 138, Gabe Ahmann at 152, Braeden Rogers at 170 and Josh Brown at 182.

Third-place finishers were Nolan Burrill at 120, Caden Noha at 160 and Dakota Hall at 170. Fourth-place qualifiers were Jacob Sisk at 106, Regan Noha at 182 and Chayne Aeschliman at 195.
