Farmington weighs future for land parcel

The Town of Farmington will consider what to do with a 4.5-acre parcel of land at the southeast edge of town after a local resident made a proposal at the town council meeting Jan. 21.

Brett Lisenbee seeks to lease the parcel, which was leased to the late Ron Johnson for hay ground for many years.

Lisenbee would use it for ag purposes as well.

“Kind of a spotty stand, not a real prized piece of ground as far as ag purposes,” Councilman Mark Hellinger, who is also mayor pro-tem, said.

Mayor Dave Baker indicated that before a decision is made, time is needed to find out if anyone else may be interested in leasing it.

In comments Jan. 21, Councilman Jaime Lopez brought up the question of whether the town should sell the land instead of leasing it.

Councilwoman Diana Oliver noted the land may be of value for trade for a future wastewater lagoon property.

“If I kept everything I thought would be of some use in the future, I’d be buried by it,” said Hellinger.

The land was originally a town park called Evergreen Park.

The council met again Monday night, with Hellinger presiding in the absence of Baker.

He relayed a report from the mayor that no further developments have occurred on the land matter.
