Ruth Rogers

Ruth Rogers, 97, a long-time former Prosser resident, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2019, at her home in Palouse where she had resided for the past four years. A graveside service will be at the cemetery in Prosser at a later date.

Born June 16, 1921, at Toppenish, to Roy and Hazel Black Thirtyacre, she lived wih her family in Tacoma and Toppenish, until the family moved to the Walnut Grove area near Prosser. She attended the Walnut Grove School and graduated from Prosser High School in 1939. She and Clarence Dale Rogers were married at Ellensburg June 18, 1939, and they made their home in Prosser where they raised three daughters. She was a homemaker most of her life, but also worked for Schmidt's Variety Store in Prosser for several years. After her husband retired, they spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., for 25 years. They moved to Yakima and resided there until her husband died in 2014. She then moved to Palouse to live with her eldest daughter and son-in-law.

She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Eastern Star Sunshine Chapter No. 94, and Vesta Club. She was an avid reader, seamstress and enjoyed knitting.

Surviving are her daughters, Joyce (Butch) Smith of Palouse, Janice (Clelan) Terry of Selah and Joanne (Dennis) Hunter of Buena Vista, Colo .; a sister, Lorene Babcock, Burien; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Sean Hunter.
