Serving Whitman County since 1877
LaCrosse Café opened under its new management March 5. Beth and Steve Beck of Endicott have taken over the business which had closed Dec. 29, 2018.
"It's a little weird," said Beth. "It took a little longer to get going than we expected."
Beth said she is both excited and nervous about this new adventure, but not focusing on moving the business in any particular direction.
Not much has been changed from when it was last opened. The menu is a little different, and the Becks hope to try some new things.
"At this point I'm going for today, I'm not looking too far ahead," she said.
Beth has worked for Corner Stone and Taco Time in Colfax.
Now she and Steve are running their own business.
"We wanted something that was ours. Then we're our own bosses," Beth said.
Their first day open they had the senior meal for the Council on Aging.
The Council on Aging hosts a senior meal in LaCrosse at the LaCrosse Café every first and third Tuesday of each month.
After the Café was closed at the end of December, Darlene Kates continued cooking for the senior meal twice a month until the Becks took over.
Paige Collins, LaCrosse resident and executive director of the Council on Aging and Human Services, felt the senior meal had a really good turnout on March 5, and is hoping they can continue.
The next meal in LaCrosse will be March 19. In honor of St. Patrick's Day the Sunday before, the meal will include corned beef and cabbage. Like always, there will be no cost for the senior meal, though donations are suggested and encouraged at the door.
The café will be open Tuesday through Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
"Those of us who live in LaCrosse are super excited for Saturday morning breakfast," said Collins.
The Becks have leased the café from LaCrosse Community Pride.
