A graveside memorial service for Michael P. Germer, 73, will be Friday, March 29, at 3 p.m. at the Viola Cemetery with the Rev. Kathy Kramer officiating. Potlatch VFW and a U.S. Air Force honor guard will participate. Mr. Germer died March 21, 2019, at Aspen Park of Cascadia in Moscow.
Born March 28, 1945, in Moscow, he attended school in Moscow through third grade when they moved to Potlatch where he graduated from high school with the class in 1963.
He joined the U.S. Air Force in the fall of 1963 and served four years as an airplane mechanic with assignments in Texas, France and Germany. He was honorably discharged in November of 1967 and returned to Potlatch.
He and Donna Carbuhn of Palouse were married June 6, 1970, at Palouse. They moved to Moscow where they made their home until they moved in 1978 to the small family farm at the base of Moscow Mountain. They later divorced, but remained friends and supported each other.
Mike worked various jobs until starting at Central Pre-mix in 1970 and then went to work for Lewiston Pre-mix in Moscow. The company was sold, and he worked for Twin-City Pre-mix, later returning to Central Pre-mix and was there until it became Pre-Mix Inc. Mike worked at Pre-Mix Inc. until his retirement in 2006.
He liked off-roading before it was popular, family drives to cut firewood, hunting, fishing, camping and watching Nascar races.
Surviving are his children, Randy (Karon) Germer, Laurie (Mike) Quiring, and Corey (Kacey) Germer; brothers, Leonard (Markie) Germer of Central Park, Ore., and Elwin (Hazel) Germer of Lewiston; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A dinner will follow the service at the Log Cabin at Potlatch.
