Bulldog bats blast off at Ritzville

Colfax bats came to life in a big way Saturday at Ritzville where the Colfax girls took two big wins over the LRS Broncos. Colfax totaled 29 hits over the two games with the Broncos.

The two wins at Ritzville advance the Colfax record to 3-0. Colfax tagged 11 hits in the first-game with a non-league game set at Colton Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs won the first game 13-2 in five innings and took the second game 21-3 over four innings.

"Our hitting was out of control. We just hit and hit and hit," Coach Michelle Miller commented.

Coach Miller again started with two freshman pitchers in the Ritzville show. Jorja Koerner started in the opener, and Justice Brown had the start in the second game.

Delaney Imler, an eighth grader, pitched relief in both of the the games.

In the first game, the Bulldogs scored six runs in the first inning and added three more in the third and four in the fourth.

Koerner worked three innings, fanned two Broncos, allowed zero walks and two hits. Imler pitched the last two innings, walked one, struck out one and allowed one hit.

The Broncos broke through to score two runs in the fourth inning. Lacey Miller homered and singled to top the hits for the host team.

For the Bulldogs, Koerner doubled and singled. Riane Jones and Harper Booth each hit a double, and Kyla Hanson paired singles.

Also getting singles for Colfax were Helina Hahn. Perry Imler, Abby Boyer, Abby Lobdell and Shyah Antoine.

In the second game, the Bulldogs stacked up 10 runs in the first three innings and capped it with 11 in the fourth for the 21-3 win. LRS scored their three runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Justice Brown allowed one hit and walked two Broncos over the first two frames of the second game. Imler walked one, struck out two and allowed three hits to finish off the last two innings.

Junior Abby Boyer led the Bulldog bats with a grand slam homer, a double and a single. Other multi hitters for the Bulldogs were Hahn, two doubles; Harper Booth, double and two singles; Jones, three singles, and Lobdell, three singles.

Also tagging hits were Perry Imler, Brown, Delaney Imler and Desi Brown.

Collette Nichols had two hits for the Broncos

Boyer's slam earned player-of-the-game honors in the close, and Koerner's pitching and hits earned her the honor for the first game.

Colfax will host Reardan for two games on Friday. The MacDonald Park ball field is now clear of snow, and could be the site if it dries out enough by game day. As a backup, the Bulldogs have a rec field reserved in Pullman as a backup.
