Serving Whitman County since 1877
The Old Time Farming Days will return to Mockonema across from the Palouse Empire Fairground this Saturday and Sunday, April 20 and 21. Teams of draft horses and mules will be hitched to harrows, plows, seeders and fertilizer spreaders to sow the 15 acre plot five miles west of Colfax to barley. The event is open to the public, free for all to catch a glimpse of farm work in days of yore and better understand the true meaning of “horsepower.”
This is the second of three stops for the vintage plowing circuit in the area. In Pomeroy earlier this month, there were between 30 to 40 head of horses. More are expected to be at Colfax.
Teams are expected to get hitched up and to work about 9-9:30 a.m. and call it a day about 4 p.m. with a break for lunch.
A catered lunch will be available, again prepared and served by Jenny Meyer of Endicott Food Center and her crew.
