Both 10th at Nike-Van Kuren: Colfax boys, Oakesdale girls bag track wins

Colfax boys topped 170 points Tuesday to edge Asotin in a nine-team meet that turned out to be the season opener for the Schmuck Park track.

Oakesdale girls scored 149 points to edge Asotin by over 27 points which brought 10 schools to the Colfax track in still-cold running conditions.

The Colfax boys posted the home win after placing 10th in the giant Nike-Van Kuren meet Saturday which was hosted by Cheney on the Spokane Falls Community College track. Colfax bagged 16 points.

The super meet logged 52 teams with Mountain View from Meridian, Idaho, taking the team with 88 points.

Senior Cameron Hiatt topped the Colfax effort with 20-6 in the long jump for second place.

Oakesdale girls also booked a 10th at the big Nike meet with 25 points behind the 123 stacked by the Mountain View team.

Tuesday in the Colfax meet, freshman Jon Kinley of Colfax stacked 40 points in the first-ever ambulatory class scoring with a 24.29 in the 100, 54.3 in the 200, 2:07.48 in the 400 and a 33-9 in the discus.

Bryan Rubin pegged wins in both hurdle races and Gabe Ahmann topped the high jump to lead the Colfax win.

For the Oakesdale winners, Elizabeth Perry took the 800, and freshman Bree Rawls cranked out big wins in both hurdle races.

The Nighthawks took the 4 x 400 relay with Logan Reed, Bree Rawls, Perry and Amber Jones on the squad.

LouEllen Reed and Jessie Reed finished 1-2 in the long jump, and Logan Reed and Bree Rawls finished 1-2 in the triple.
