Colfax softball squad books 2-1

Colfax softball players finished off a 2-1 run for the week with a 10-2 win on the road Tuesday at Pomeroy. The win over the Pirates follows a split last Friday against league foe Liberty on the WSU rec field on Valley Road in Pullman.

Tuesday, Colfax freshman Jorja Koerner pitched a three-hitter in going the distance against the Pirates. She allowed just three hits, walked two batters and struck out six.

After posting a 1-1 tie in the first inning, Colfax exploded for five runs in the second frame to take control.

Pomeroy was blanked for the next four innings before scoring their second and last run in the sixth.

Helina Hahn topped the Colfax bats with a triple, and Justice Brown and Abby Boyer each tagged a double and a single. Other hitters for Colfax were Koerner and Perry Imler with doubles, Anni Cox with two singles and Abby Lobdell with a single.

Pomeroy starter Heidi Heytvelt allowed Colfax eight hits.

Friday at Pullman, Colfax booked a split with Liberty in the league clash at the big WSU field.

The Bulldogs bagged a 5-4 win in the first game with Koerner pitching all seven innings. She struck out eight, walked zero and rationed 10 hits.

Coach Michelle Miller noted Koerner managed to contain the Lancers who left a lot of runners on the bases after getting the hits.

Colfax staked a 5-3 lead after three innings, and the Lancers added one in the fourth but were shut down for the last three frames.

Justice Brown and Kyla Hansen each homered for the Bulldogs; Hahn tripled and Koerner singled.

Maizy Frettwell led Liberty's 10-hit offense with two doubles and a single.

Liberty dropped the Bulldogs 12-7 in the second game, which saw each side tag nine hits. The Lancers took control with a four-run charge in the fourth inning.

Riane Jones, Imler, and Lobdell each paired singles for Colfax.

Brown, Delaney Imler and Koerner pitched for the Bulldogs.

Saturday's non-league game with Colton, also set at the WSU rec field, was rained out.

The Bulldogs are slated to travel to Asotin Saturday for another league round.
