The Colton softball team swept a doubleheader Monday at home against Potlatch to total four games played in the 2019 season.
The date was April 11.
Spring break has already happened. Prom has already happened. The team has gotten in three practices outside this year.
“In my 20 years, this is the worst I’ve ever had,” said veteran Colton coach Brad Nilson.
The Wildcats, 3-1 now with a loss to league rival Pomeroy (which has played seven games) met Potlatch and won a blowout and a tight game called on account of darkness.
In the first game, Abby Kelly and Josie Schultheis both hit home runs in a 15-2 win.
“We hit the daylights out of it,” said Nilson of the four-inning game. Emily Schultheis pitched all four innings.
In game two, Josie Schultheis pitched all six innings of a 5-4 win called early.
“Their pitcher couldn’t throw a strike and our batters were impatient,” Nilson said of the game.
The Vikings were set to play next on Wednesday at Asotin, then Thursday at home against Orofino.
What does Nilson think of the limited view he’s had so far for his team?
“I don’t know anything,” Nilson said. “That’s where we are.”
