Suppliers submit bids for new guardrails

County commissioners opened bids for two parts of countywide road safety improvement projects Monday.

For guardrails they chose the apparent low of $386,419 from M2 Industrial, Inc., of Ellensburg.

A total of three bids came in, the other two from Frank Gurney, Inc., of Spokane Valley at $407,86.50 and Peterson Brothers of Sumner, Wash., at $465,705.31.

The Public Works department will now review the winning bid to make sure it fits all parameters, with expected award June 3. By law, commissioners choose the lowest bid.

For rumble strips, three bids came in with the apparent low from Road Products, Inc., of Spokane for $227,594.54. Pavement Surface Control of Kennewick bid $312,091.42 and Stripe Right, Inc., also of Kennewick, bid $431,389.08.

They intend to award this will also be June 3.

The projects include 28 miles of centerline rumblestrips and guardrail.

Rumble strips will go in on Endicott Road, Albion Road, Pullman-Albion Road, Palouse Cove Road and Pullman Airport Road. The guardrail will be installed on stretches of Pullman-Wawawai Road and Wawawai Road. In addition, the county will repaint stripes on multiple county roads.

The work is to be paid for by the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program.
