Oakesdale girls collected points all over the Roos Field complex at Cheney Friday and Saturday to roll out a dominant win in the 1B state track finals. The Nighthawks finished with 107 points, the highest tally for the six divisions at the meet which included 1B, 2B and 1A boys and girls division.
Second highest team tally was an 82 stacked by Mt. Vernon Christian in their 1B boys division win.
Colfax boys finished with 24 points to tie for 12th in the 2B division, and the Tekoa/Oakesdale boys finished one point back with 23.
Freshman Bree Rawls led the Oakesdale charge with wins in both the hurdle events. Rawls booked amazing starts in both races and finished 16.66 in the 100 for a .62 edge over Olivia Eisses of Shoreline Christian in the number-two slot. In the 200, Rawls clocked a 47.44 for a .66 edge over Eisses.
Lauryn Rawls had a 129-8 sling in the discus to bump the meet record set by Andrea Heinen of Cusick in 2011 by two inches.
Oakesdale capped their team win by putting three finishers on the awards stand for the triple jump and then winning the last meet event, the 4x400 relay with Logan Reed, Madison Dingman, Elisabeth Perry and Amber Jones running legs. They clocked 4:21.8 for a four-second edge over Concordia Christian.
Top finish for the fans was marked by Gavin Merritt of Tekoa/Rosalia and Austen Apperson of Adna in the 3200 for boys in the 2B division. Both seniors were making their last race. Apperson, who was the returning champ, and Merritt tucked in behind the early leaders, before Apperson broke out in the final laps with Merritt in pursuit. After almost eight laps, the two seniors finished in a sprint for the line with Apperson again getting the call for a repeat win.
TR junior Garrett Naught also booked a first for the Nighthawks with a 6-6 top mark, four inches over the 6-2 by number-two Charlie Andrews of Kettle Falls.
Colfax senior Cameron Hiatt topped the Colfax entry with a third in the triple jump, a fourth in the long jump, and two lengths on Colfax relay teams which placed seventh both times.
Garfield/Palouse junior Anais Mills had a big day in the distance events when she placed third in the 3200, fourth in the 1600 and fifth in the 800.
2B Division

Colfax girls finishers: Kaitlynn Cornish, 4th in the long jump at 16-5.75; 4th in the 100 at 13.17; Asher Cai, 13th in high jump at 4-8; Johanna Keller Tersch, 7th in pole vault at 8-0.
Tekoa/Rosalia boys finisher; Gavin Merritt. 4th in the 1600 at 4:31.71, 2nd in the 3200 at 9:58.08; Issac Leighton, 8th in 3200 at 10:32.39; Garrett Naught, first in the high jump at 6-6.
Tekoa Rosalia girls finishers: Emily Leighton, 5th in shotput at 35-7.75; Emily Kramer, 14th in high jump at 4-6.
