The Colfax school board Monday approved hiring David Gibb of Selah as principal for the junior/senior high school. Gibb spent the past four years as assistant principal/career and technical education director at Selah, a 2A school of 1,100 students.
“We're thrilled to have David Gibb,” said Jerry Pugh, superintendent. “He was all in for Colfax. This is where he wanted to be. He pushed it hard.”
The hiring process to fill a position vacated by the resignation of Carrie Lipe, as principal for three years, included a day in which three candidates visited Colfax, went in front of various interview committees including students, toured school construction and the town of Colfax and concluded with a community meeting attended by an estimated 40 parents and others.
“We had three really good candidates,” said Pugh, who was part of the day's evaluation, along with board members David Nails and Brian Becker.
To hire a principal, the superintendent chooses a candidate which he or she nominates to the board.
Last Friday, June 7, Pugh and Jennings elementary principal Travis Howell went to Selah to talk with people at Gibb's present school.
Gibb has a bachelor's degree in education, physical education, with a minor in history from Eastern Washington University (2000). He earned a master's degree in E-Curriculum and Adult Learning from the University of Phoenix in 2004. Gibbs, originally from Brewster, and his wife have three daughters, a ninth, sixth and first grader.
The district received eight completed applications for the principal job.
Gibb will start July 1.
