LaCrosse gold grads set for reunion

Denise Kendall, Tacoma, spent the weekend helping prepare for the 50th year reunion of the LaCrosse class of 1969. They gathered at the home of Doreen and Tom Riedner, where the reunion will be next weekend. They prepared the shop for the reunion to accommodate the class for dinner and visiting Saturday and Sunday.

Burial services at the Dusty Cemetery were held Saturday for June Sather Broeckel, who died Feb. 8, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. A reception followed at Selbu Lutheran Church with a memorial service conducted by Pastor John Cross with musical selections by Linda Hennigar. Al Broeckel, Tacoma, husband of the deceased, was a guest of Greg and Gwen Nolan in Colfax.

Staying at the home of Karen Broeckel were June’s children and grandchildren, JoAnn and Brian Elrod and Lauren and Aiden of Bellevue and John Broeckel of Jacksonville, Ore.

Her brother-in-law Jim Phillips, Lacey, and nieces and nephews Jolene and Kurt Stiles, Lacey; Bryon Stiles and Lee Dimaculangan; Erik and Anna Stiles, Spokane; Jacey Phillips, Pullman; and Gordon and Adel Phillips, Lacey, all stayed at The Parsonage Bed and Breakfast. Niece Janice and Greg Cherin and Tyler Cherin, Seattle, came for the services Saturday and returned to their home the same day. The rest of the group met at Eddy’s restaurant in Colfax for dinner Saturday evening.

Three-year-old Murphy Nolan was a guest of her Auntie K. (great-great aunt Karen Broeckel) from Thursday to Saturday. They had a great time visiting and feeding crackers to Angela and Brian Broeckel’s goats, blowing bubbles, playing ball, running through the sprinkler, singing Murphy’s favorite songs and all sorts of fun activities.
