At the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs annual awards night June 5, Rosalia Garden Club was recognized for sponsoring youth butterfly posters from Rosalia Grade School. First-place awards and $5 went to Claire Schu, first grade; Addy Horlacher, second grade; Averi Brunner, third grade, and Ashlyn Butcher, fourth grade.
The club also sponsored the Smokey Bear poster contest.
Hannah Taylor placed first for first grade, and her poster went on to Pacific Region competition where she placed fifth in her grade level.
Third grader Leslie Bothman also placed first and her poster placed second at Pacific Region competition which includes eight western states.
Rosalia Garden Club was honored with a special Pacific Region award for their participation.
Out of 91 clubs in the state federation, the top 10 honor clubs were named with Rosalia Garden Club receiving the third-place honor. This is based on a point system for having a well-rounded program of horticulture, design and other National Garden Club’s objectives like birds, conservation and world gardening. The club has been an honor club for more than 50-years and has 21 members.
New officers were recently elected and will be installed in July. They are Penni Barringer, president; Marcy Campbell and Laura Fulton, co-vice presidents; Rosie McLain, secretary and Roseanna Hester, treasurer.
