New windows were installed on the front of the Benge School building on Monday, to replace the large single pane glass windows. The Benge School has been known as “the glass sided school” for decades as many of the exterior walls were almost floor to ceiling glass. They were installed by Steve’s Glass of Colfax staying at the job site until it’s finished.
Sullivan Construction of Albion coordinated work on the school which included Ackerman’s for new HVAC, M&M Harrison electric for new electric service and updates and Kackman’s for concrete, gravel and site work. New foam insulation in the ceilings, acoustical tile ceilings with LED lighting, new carpet, painting and a security locking system will also be added.
The building was built in 1957 to replace the prior building lost in a fire during the summer of 1955, and it has had no modifications or significant alterations since.
Renovations were made possible through a grant of more than $700,000 from the state.
