The Whitman County Cougars pushed further into the American Legion season (ages 13-16) with a series of wins and losses in the past week to put their record at 20-10-1, (12-2 league).
On Monday, July 8, they beat the Moscow Junior Blue Devils 6-5. Gavin Shrope led Whitman County with two RBIs. Further hits came from Brendan Doumit, Marcus Hilliard, Nick Robison, Elliott Lee and Colin Dreewes.
Joe Bendel pitched three and one-third innings to get the win with no earned runs.
Cougars drop doubleheader to Moses Lake
Playing at Pullman High School Saturday, July 7, the Cougars went down 12-6 and 9-8 against Moses Lake, losing the second game when a rally came up just short.
In Whitman County’s last at-bat, Oak Held hit what appeared a game-winning, in-the-park grand slam, which turned into a ground-rule double after the ball rolled under the outfield fence.
Moses Lake then got a strikeout to hold on to the win by a run.
Held went 3-for-5 for the Cougars in the second game with three RBIs.
Lakers split
In a high-scoring doubleheader July 6 against North Idaho the Cougars split at Pullman, winning 19-18 and losing 29-9.
Whitman County totaled 30 base hits for the day. Nick Robison went 7-for-8 with three doubles and six RBIs. Anthony Becker went 4-for-4 with a double, two triples, six runs scored and nine RBIs.

Rogers 4
Trailing into the third inning before a 10-run at-bat put them in control, Whitman County beat Rogers July 5 in Spokane. Brendan Doumit and Nick Strenge got three RBIs each in the game while Nick Robison added two. In the third inning, Marcus Hilliard hit a double to give the Cougars the lead.
