Colfax grad opens chiropractic office

Nicole Heilsberg, a member of the Colfax High School class of 2003 opened the doors of her chiropractic office in April for the first time after running her business out of her home since 2015.

"It's been a huge learning lesson," Heilsberg said. "The business aspect was not something we were taught in school, so I had to learn how to manage the business side."

She is the only employee at Chiro Health Connection, located at 116 N. Main St. Her family helps with the business-side of the operation.

Chiro Health Connection offers different styles of chiropractic practices, like activator adjustment and a drop table. Activator adjustment is where the chiropractor applies a device to the affected joints to correct them, and a drop table is where patients lie on a table with sections that drop down while the chiropractor alines the spine.

In addition, Heilsberg is a licensed massage therapist and offers nutrition testing and personal training.

Heilsberg studied health and science at Washington State University for three years, then transferred to Parker University in Dallas, Texas, to finish her undergraduate degree in 2010. She completed her doctorate degree in 2014 at Parker.

Heilsberg said she moved back to Colfax four years ago, and started working in Pullman.

"Being in the big city made me realize I missed the small town feel," she said. "The networking is a lot easier here, and all my family is in Colfax."

She said the Pullman commute was not in her best interest because her young son attends school in Colfax. Colfax didn't have many options to join a chiropractor's office, so she started her own.

The biggest challenge of starting her own office was finding a location in Colfax that wasn't too expensive, she said.

"I feel very blessed to come back here," Heilsberg said.

She said she was mentored by Dirk Dewitt who opened the Colfax Chiropractic Clinic in October 1981 on Main Street.

Dewitt died last November, and Heilsberg considers it a great loss to the community.
