The Town of Farmington will hold two special elections for the county's Aug. 6 Primary Election.
Proposition No. 1 will ask voters to finance street maintenance, repair and improvement with a property tax levy of $8,000, to be paid for by $1.64 or less per $1,000 of assessed value in 2019. If approved, the tax would be collected in 2020.
Special Election, Proposition No. 2 in Farmington is to finance the town's current expense fund, collected at $15,000 or $3.06 per $1,000 of assessed value in 2019, also to be collected in 2020.
“These are pretty standard operating procedure for Farmington,” said Mark Hellinger, acting mayor and city councilman.
“Historically, we've done this every year, as I recall.”
Hellinger, as mayor pro-tem, stepped in after the resignation of Dave Baker May 31.
The Farmington city council has until midnight Aug. 27 to appoint a new mayor to meet the 90 days requirement by state law since Baker's resignation. Requirements to be a town mayor are one year as a resident, and to have their primary residence within town.
Farmington has a new clerk, following the resignation of Barb Dial-Flomer, also May 31. Lydia Alkas started June 3, adding new evening hours of 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. Original Monday-Wednesday-Friday hours of 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. continue.
