American Legion Cougars' season ends

The Whitman County Cougars American Legion baseball season (ages 13-16) ended in two losses in Spokane in the district tournament July 19 and 20.

In the first game, against Newport, the Cougars posted seven errors. In the second, eight.

Against University in an elimination game, Tyler Elbracht pitched all seven innings for Whitman County, allowing no earned runs in a 13-5 loss.

At the plate, Elliott Lee went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Brendan Doumit went 2-for-4.

FIRST ROUND

The Cougars’ opened the playoffs July 19 at Spokane and went down 11-1 to Newport.

Whitman County’s seven errors were all in the infield. The game was called in five innings on account of the 10-run rule.

The Cougars trailed 7-0 before scoring in the fourth inning.

In the end, Doumit and Colin Dreewes each totaled two hits in the game, which dropped the team to the elimination bracket to play University the next morning.

The Cougars finished the season with a 25-12-1 record.
