A graveside memorial service for Melvin C. Taggart, 87, longtime resident of Potlatch, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Potlatch Cemetery with the Rev. Kathy Kramer officiating. Military honors will be conducted by Potlatch VFW post and the United States Army Honor Guard participating.
Mr. Taggart died June 16, 2019, at the Wedgewood Terrace in Lewiston, Idaho, where he resided since 2017.
Born June 27, 1931, in Potlatch to Joseph and Gertrude Paroz Taggart, he attended schools at Palouse and graduated from the Palouse High School in 1949. Melvin attended the University of Idaho for two years to study mechanical engineering. He joined the United States Army Feb. 9, 1954, and served in Korea. He was discharged on Dec. 15, 1955. After his service duty, he returned to the University of Idaho and graduated with a master's degree in Engineering.
He operated Taggart Engineering and Surveying until he retired due to health reasons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snow skiing in his younger years.
Survivors include one half brother, Jack Taggart, China Lake, Calif., one nephew Charles Taggart Jr., Potlatch. He was preceded in death by two half brothers, Mick and Charles Taggart.
Memorials may be given to the Potlatch Fire Dept, Box 63, Potlatch, Idaho, or Kindred Hospice, or charity of donor's choice.
Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse has been entrusted with caring for Melvin's family.
